Wouldn't necessarily be for commercial service, IIRC they currently have a 763ER for purely VIP ops. Either way its appeared out of nowhere.

You're probably right - the carrier seems happy with its 757's - cant see them jumping for such a large airplane overnight!

Yeah that's right. That 777 is a surprise. What'll be a bigger surprise is that it's a 777-300ER.

With a range capability of 17,150km whilst cruising at Mach0.86 with 100 passengers, the 747-8BBJ no doubt epitomises the sheer splendor of VIP travel. I am thrilled to see this great airplane already scoring her first order for the year so far. Here's to many more!!

Have reliably been informed the Turkmenistan 777 order is a 772LR. Which makes it even more surprising.

Well the probability of getting 1000 orders for the 787 before first flight are sure getting higher with flight delays and continued strong sales.

With the recent trends in the 787 program Boeing can have 1000 firm 787 orders by LN 1 Power on!

Sure would be a pretty bittersweet achievement. But as long as the orders keep coming in despite the delays, things are still looking rather positive.

Actually, it appears that the 23 UFOs are for an existing customer per the
Seattle Times and
Seattle Post-Intelligencer.
NH and NW both hold 50 options. QR has 30 and both AC and QF have at least 23.

http://active.boeing.com/commercial/orders/index.cfmNew Orders:
2 x 737-800 for Blue Air Transport
1 x 737 for American Airlines
1 x 777 for Asiana
TheMightyM
Feb 7 2008, 05:39 PM
Some notes:
The Asiana order is for a 777-200ER but the engine selected hasn't been announced yet (would have to assume PW).
The 787 UFO from January is for 23 787-8s, no engine selection, all booked on the same day. ILFC?
The 737 from January is for 17 -700 all booked on the same day.
American Airlines has now booked a total of five 737-800s since November. They were behind three UFO orders late last year that are now, well, no longer UFOs.
Qatar Airways converted two 777F to 777-300ERs.

Since Continental announced that it "has added" 8 777's to its order books, could it be that these are part of the 10 un-identifieds on the Boeing order books? Same goes for the 737s

Two of the ten 777s were booked on December 3rd 2007.

^For the most part no. Continental's annual report released today makes clear that that they placed an additional order on February 20, 2008 -- and the order update Boeing put out today that NYC777 just posted only goes through the 19th. The bulk of Continental's order should show up next week.
Now for the exception: when you work through the information in Continental's filings, it's clear they are responsible for the 2-frame 777-200ER UFO of December 3, 2007. Continental did not place any other orders in 4Q07. The first of these is due in August 2009.
Also note that they just order six more 777 yesterday, not eight. (2+6 = 8, not 2+8 = 10).

Still, 59 orders for the week. If that were average for each week of the year, it would make for a pretty big year, so not too bad.

If 59 orders were average we'd be talking 3068 orders for the year, that would be way more than just "not too bad"

^The monthly database update doesn't offer much new information either. This month's 737 UFO orders are evenly split between -700 and -800 -- with an order for one and 15 each. (This week's was a -700).
The four-frame 777 UFO from a few weeks back was for -300ERs, which does oh so little to narrow down who it might be for.
And lastly, JAL converted the last 767-300F they had on order to a 767-300ER. That gives them 5 767-300ERs currently on order.
No UFOs were identified that we didn't already known about.

True, but there are a few suspects renowned for 773ER UFOs, such as AF/KL, EK, ILFC and GECAS.

Werent Malaysian supposed to be announcing something along the lines of 40 737 + 10 777 at the Singapore Airshow?
If my maths is correct, this means the 787 is less than 10 frames from the 900 firm orders mark.
