FT.com is reporting FlyDubai is expected to order around 50 Boeing 737s at the Farnborough Airshow.

QUOTE
At Farnborough a large order for short-haul jets is expected to be awarded to Boeing by FlyDubai, the low cost carrier which is due to begin operations in the middle of next year. FlyDubai is expected to place an order for around 50 Boeing 737s.

Emirates, the Dubai-based long-haul carrier, is assisting in the development of FlyDubai, but once launched, its operations will be entirely separate from the Emirates airline and group. FlyDubai will initially focus on regional flights.

Dubai-based start-up budget carrier FlyDubai is to order 54 Boeing 737-800s, defining the fleet for the United Arab Emirates' newest airline.

Deliveries of the aircraft are expected to begin in May 2009. All 737s have CFM International CFM56 engines.

The carrier disclosed the agreement at a press conference during the Farnborough air show today.

There's a picture of a FlyDubai 738 in the article.

I was told FlyDubai got terms MOL would be ashamed to ask for. blush.gif

Of the 54 aircraft, four will be leased from Babcock and Brown while the other 50 are being directly ordered from Boeing. The four B&B 738s are already on Boeings order books. It's unclear whether some of the 50 are from previous UFO orders. We'll have to wait for Boeing's announcement.

FlyDubai has the option to switch to the larger 737-900ER if it wishes.

A profitable sale is still a profitable sale. Make it up on volume. smile.gif

Absolutely. Not to mention they are much more likely to get follow up orders.

In an article I read about the order it was mentioned that FlyDubai can get new build 738s so early because three U.S. airlines have deferred orders from 2009 to 2010-2012.

I thought the first 738 in May would have been a leased aircraft from B&B, but it turns out it will be one of the purchased 738s. The first leased 738 will be delivered in December 2009.
