The carrier increased its order of Dreamliners by five planes by switching to 787s from five 767-300ERs, which it had on order. It will still take delivery of another four 767-300ERs.

Being too lazy to look it up, anyone know off hand the tallies for the remaining 767 order book?

^61:

767-300ER:
ANA 4
Azerbaijan Airlines 2
JAL 9 (still listed as an UFO)
LAN 7
Uzbekistan Airways 4
UFO 2 -- just booked this week

767-300F:
6 DHL
27 UPS (first to deliver shortly)

Note: All to be GE-powered except for the Uzbekistan Airways order (PW) and the new UFO (not specified). The oldest outstanding orders (January and February 2007) are UPS, DHL and 3 of the LAN, so expect to see deliveries to those three (only) for the next 12 to 18 months, then you'll see the others worked in (which date from August - November 2008).

One. They were planning to move to two, but decided against it due to current market conditions.

So that's going to take around 5 years to clear the backlog of 61?! Surely not...

Probably not in actuality. The goal was to keep the line moving until the final KC-X RFP is awarded. If Boeing wins it and production is funded, I expect the line will increase production depending on the delivery needs for the USAF. They still have to convert the line to ITAR (Weapons Trafficking) regulations which will require a temporary shutdown.

Well, Boeing's production rate for the first half of 2009 was one per month. And yes, I do recall some sort of announcement that they we're undertaking a possible jump in production rate. None of that means that the production rate in the second half of 2009 or 2010 is still necessarily 1 per month. It could easily be something like 1.25/month (15/year), 1.33 month (16/year) or even 1.5 month (18/year) -- we'll just have to wait and see.
