It would be entirely appropriate to add an analysis of SQ's services as well. Particularly, SIN-SYD-SIN, where multiple frame types are used on these services.
However, if your analysis is correct - then you have punctured (in one fell-swoop) a number of Fleetbuzzard's arguments that the A380-800 is a 'money-loser' for airlines. I had a good chuckle over that.
Looking at the public comments on your page / article, I might add a little clarification in QF's case. Since LAX-SYD-LAX fares are 'bucketed' (full economy, advance purchase, Red E-deals, upgrades etc), you'll find that QF is offering it's cheapest fares .. and allocating those 'cheap' fares to the B747-400/ER fleet, where possible. The highest yield fares are being directed to the A380-800 naturally (greater comfort, more space) and this is a commercial decision, based on fare buckets, rather than
operational frame costs. In times of high demand (25 November is not), it is not unheard of for QF to be loading 'cheap fare' passengers on the big bird.
I was just trying to compare the flights on US bound routes. I could try to get into other routes jsut as long as there are other meaningful flights on those same routes to compare it against.
I wan't trying to look at the pricing in terms of profitability (it may or may not I just don't know) but purely on the pricing to the passenger that you can get. Here it seems that the A380 is falling short (on both coasts...LAX to SYD and JFK to CDG).
I understand your comment on fare bucketing but 1) Many airlines (and perhaps Airbus itself) said that because of the lower CASM of the A380 would lead directly to lower airfares to the passneger..it seems that it has not. 2) In these economics times if I'm a passenger looking for a cheap fare to Sydney I would rather take the QANTAS 747-400 at $500 cheaper to the A380). What happens then is that the load factors on the A380 will be hurt and thus the profitability of the route will be hurt. If you want to charge to fly a novelty that's fine but in this ecomic times it's not a realistic approach to driving the buisness.
